TJ’s Favorite Smoothie Recipe

You might have noticed it’s been kind of hot in Central Texas lately – like hotter than 40 bleepin’ hells! As such, I have been foregoing my usual 2 eggs and bacon breakfast and instead have been firing up the ol’ Vita Mix to make some cool and delicious smoothies. I’ve included my favorite smoothie recipe here should you decide to do the same. It’s loaded with nutrition and is a great way to beat the heat. I usually have one for breakfast, but it makes a great pre- or post-workout super shake as well. For one smoothie you will need:

  • 8 oz. filtered water
  • 1/2 frozen banana (peel & freeze the night before)
  • 1 cup frozen berries (I like strawberries or blueberries)
  • 1/8 tsp. matcha green tea powder (my friend Merry gets all the credit for this brilliant addition)
  • 1 tbsp. flax seeds (hemp seeds work just as well)
  • 1 tsp. liquid B vitamins
  • 2 tbsp. SP Complete protein powder
  • 2 tbsp. Whey Pro Complete (excellent source of branched chain amino acids)
  • 1 heaping tbsp. of coconut butter

standard process healthy smoothie

For the best results I blend the fruit and water first and then, with the motor still running, add the rest of the ingredients in through the top of the blender. If you’re not sure where to get all the ingredients send me an email at tama@hydeparkacupuncture.com and I’ll be happy to share my sources. Enjoy!
